AIDA World Pool Championships 2024, Kaunas

The 2024 AIDA World Pool Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, was a monumental event for Apneists UK athletes Kate Goodwin and Bill Seaford. They proudly represented the UK, competing in multiple disciplines under the expert guidance of Head Coach Steve Millard.

Kate Goodwin:

Support and Preparation

Kate and Bill’s preparation was thorough, thanks to the dedicated support of Steve Millard and the Apneists UK club. Club members played a crucial role, providing safety cover, motivation, and encouragement during training sessions, underscoring the strength of the UK freediving community.

Competition Highlights

  • The UK team secured a full set of white cards, signifying clean, valid dives—a remarkable achievement at this level.
  • A standout moment was Germany’s Heike Schwerdtner setting a new women’s static apnea world record with a 9-minute 7-second hold, surpassing Natalia Molchanova’s 11-year record. This historic achievement energized the event, making it memorable for all present.

Future Prospects

Both Kate and Bill are back in training, motivated by their experiences and successes at the World Championships. They are eager to continue their progression in freediving, supported by their dedicated coach and club.

Event Significance

The 32nd AIDA World Pool Championships highlighted not only personal and national accomplishments but also international camaraderie among 140 athletes from 35 countries. The event showcased the growing community and evolving standards in the sport of freediving.
